How to Prepare Your Blog For Autumn

Fall is here, and that means it's time to put a warm sweater over your swim suit and prepare for all your conversations to somehow be related to pumpkin spice lattes... I. Love. Fall. Seriously, it's my favorite season. Every year it comes around I get reminded of all the good things. Pumpkin everything, the spices, playing in the leaves. It's crazy to think that next fall, I'm going to be on my way to college. Whoa. Anyways, because autumn is here, I thought it'd be a good idea to share some things I'm doing (and perhaps you'd like to do as well) to adjust and prepare. Here are ways you can prepare your blog for autumn. :) Brainstorm Ideas If you have yet to make the official switch or gradual transition from summer to fall, you likely need to brainstorm ideas for your blog content. What are some blog posts you can craft that stay within your blog's focus, but also acknowledge the fact that fall is here? Make a list of your blog's ca

How to Add a Floating, Fade In Gadget to Your Blog

Today's tutorial was prompted by a question I received in my advice column contact form. :) It read: I LOVE everything that you did with Ingrid's blog,  http://www.smilingrid.com/ ! When you scroll down, that tabs bar up top pops up is the bomb. Could you please do a tutorial on how to code it?? I have some web designer friends, so don't be afraid to "speak code" as they will explain it to me haha <33 This tutorial is going to be on how to create a floating, fade in gadget (specifically a Blogger pagelist). Let's get started. :) The instructions. Select the blog you want to edit. Make sure you have a pagelist gadget installed on your blog. Install the following codes to your template. Save and view your changes. Javascript: <script src='http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js' type='text/javascript'/> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ // hide #mbz-sidebar-widget first

a lesson I've learned recently.

There are no rules when it comes to writing what you want to write. There are absolutely no boundaries. You're allowed do as you want, for whoever you want to do it for. You can use your words for anything you'd like - good or bad, healing or dismantling, expressing or not. And it doesn't matter what anyone else says. They're your words. You control them. (You think I would have learned this sooner.)

Ask Self Known // 003

Hello my fabulous friends! How is everyone today? It's been a crazy week for me. I'm having a hard time blogging... All I've wanted to do is write for my WIP, so... You may not hear much from me in the following weeks. :} Anyways... As you may or may not have noticed, the Self Known Advice column skipped a week and got shifted today. This is due to the fact that I started school last week and I've been so dang busy . It feels like I haven't gotten anything done. I'm all over the place. Anyone have any tips for that? ;) Here are today's questions and answers! Enjoy, and make sure to send me your questions below. :) 1. Hey! I have a big problem with self confidence... how do I "get more"? Define confidence. What is confidence to you? Is it having enough willpower to say no? Is it breaking out of your shell and asking out that really cute guy you're friends keep catching you staring it? Take a good chunk of your day to sit yo

Why THINGS are not helping you face your fear

Just take a moment to close your eyes and imagine one thing - anything - that, if you had it this very moment, you'd be able to achieve the success, goals and dreams you obsess over. Open your eyes. I'm going to tell you why you don't need that thing right now . You have dreams. You have goals, plans to be successful. You have at least one thing you really  want to achieve and for some reason you just can't seem to get up and grab for it. You want to publish a book, but first you need to write it. You want to be a photographer, but first you need the equipment - you need a better camera. You want to help others but before you can do that you need to help yourself. Do you see the pattern? Your wants can only be fulfilled if you have something else. Something that will put you above and beyond so you can meet your "high requirements". But is that true? Pft. No. I'm going to just come out and say what I think is going on (tell me in the c
