How To Remove Borders From Your Photos

Hello my little bumble bees! It's tutorial time again and today I'm going to share how to remove those annoying default borders from around your photos. Example: Ugly, right? Here's how to get rid of these pesky borders, once and for all! :) Here's what you need to do: 1. Log into blogger, and select the blog you'd like to remove your photo borders from. 2. Go to Template >>> Customize >> Add CSS . 3. Put the code ( below ) in the box and watch those ugly disappear! 4. Don't forget to save your changes! Now here is the lovely css code (provided by the web): .post-body img, .post-body .tr-caption-container, .ss, .Profile img, .Image img, .BlogList .item-thumbnail img { padding: none !important; border: none !important; background: none !important; -moz-box-shadow: 0px 0px 0px transparent !important; -webkit-box-shadow: 0px 0px 0px transparent !important; box-shadow: 0px 0px 0px transparent !impor

You Are Special (Guest Post)

I’m not athletic. I don’t look like a model. I have a ton of quirks. I’m not a very sociable person. I talk about photography way too much. I have a hard time making new friends. I am messy. I’m not great at school. I giggle way too much. I’m not a great singer. I have a hard time putting my thoughts on paper. I’m a very weird person. But all of this is ok. Just because I’m not great at sports or school or singing; it doesn’t define my self-worth. Just because I don’t look like a model, doesn’t mean I’m not pretty. Mine (and your) personality isn’t based on how we look and the things we’re good at. Instead, it’s based on how we act and how we treat other people. I guess what I’m trying to say is, our flaws do not define who we are as a human being. Just because you don’t look like your best friend or weigh more then they do, it doesn’t make you any less worthy than them. Psalm 139:13-14 says this: “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast cover

Ask Self Known

To be honest, I wasn't even going to hit publish on this post. I wasn't going to write it or even consider the idea of putting this out there. But it's fearlessness week, so I thought, "Eh. Trying it out won't hurt." I'd like to start an advice column/post series/whatever you'd like to call it. I know you have a lot of questions, and I know I have the willingness to answer them, so, why not? :) If you have a question you'd like me to answer, please feel free to fill out the form below, or contact me via email with the subject line "ASK SELF KNOWN". Points to remember: Questions will remain anonymous. You can ask questions related to any topic - blogging, web design, real life experiences, etc. I'll answer in the form of a post or a video (maybe, but that's unlikely), so continue to check back to see if your questions get answered! What question will you be asking? I can't wait to hear from you! :) Have a

Delve Into Me: A Close Look At the Bloggers You Love (009)

This lovely interview stars O Williams from the wonderful blog, Life As A Young Lady! Keep reading to learn more about her. :) + + + Please introduce yourself, and tell us a little bit more about you and your blog. I'm Olivia a.k.a O Williams, one of those horrible people who's overly obsessed with Netflix, music, and sleep--a combination which usually doesn't work right. My blog consists of lengthy life rants, confusing fangirl posts, and me forcing my music taste on you. When did you start your blogging journey and why? I started blogging August 2013 for a school assignment--I originally had a blog on Wordpress which was terrible, but decided to switch to Blogger as more bloggers my age were there and I felt more freedom using that program rather than Wordpress. So here I am! *crickets* What's the most challenging aspect of blogging for you? Being consistent. I'm not a particularly busy person; I just procrastinate a lot and end up spacing my

Expression // 017

Today's Expression is going to be a sneak peek at my current WIP. Enjoy. :) + + + Thirty-two days before the incident, Donald took Marcy out. It was weird because neither of them were picky about dates. They were both fine with just being together because just being together meant they were together. And that was good enough. Even so, Donald announced it was time for a change of scenery. He handed Marcy his phone, telling her to scroll down. She snorted once she saw the message displayed on the screen. “You got us a reservation at Pacifica? Sounds expensive. How did you manage it?” Donald just smiled. “I expect you to be ready by five.” “The reservation is for six thirty.” “It’s a long drive.” The drive was long. Marcy ended up taking her baby heels off halfway through and plunking her feet up on the dashboard, allowing her dress to hike up. She kept her purse in her lap, hoping her skirt hadn’t revealed everything, but not fixing it anyway. Whe

Just so you know...

Hello there my little bumble bees. :) I'm writing up this post to inform you that I'm going to be gone from July 20th to 24th , so Self Known is going to be kind of quiet. While I'm gone I won't be able to reply to emails or design orders, so I apologize ahead of time. That's all. :) Make sure to sign up for my eCourse while I'm gone! I'll be back soon. <3 xx Nicole Rose

How and Why: Linkup Parties

Starting out as a blogger can be really hard. You want to grow your blog, but even though it seems like you've tried everything, nothing works. Your blog hasn't expanded in the least. You don't see any improvement. That's why in this post I'm going to share with you the miracle of link up parties! I'm going to go over how they work, why you should create your own, which hosts you should use and much, much more. Let's get started, shall we? :) Share this post to help other bloggers learn about linkup parties. How they work The typical link party can be broken down into 3  basic*  parts. * Every link up is different, so as you're reading through this and considering to create your own, consider adding a unique twist to your link up party. After all, people tend to get tired of seeing the same old same old. The sponsors These are the people who came up with the original idea of that particular link party. It can be anyone from you on your

Expression // 016

I just realize I haven't post an Expression on here in several weeks... Oops. Here's today's Expression. I created a video to go along with it, and because it's my first real video, I'd like to say don't be too hard on me. I'm learning this video thing as I go. ;) + + + Click play and scroll to read along. :) This is you. This is you. You are good. You are whoever you've been made to be. You like what you like, and you are who you are. Sometimes, you feel happy. Other times, you feel sad. Sometimes, you feel nothing at all. That's okay. Sometimes bad things happen. People say mean things, it rains on your picnic, your dog gets shot. Maybe you don't pass an important test, you get fired from your job, or things just aren't looking up right now. That's okay. Maybe you're having a really stinky day. Your partner is being a jerk, the sun is just not shining, you can't find your favorite purple pen and eve

How To Talk About Your Blog (In Real Life)

Hey bloggers! I hope you're all out on summer vacation, having fun, chillin' and all that. ;) I've been incredibly busy over the past few weeks. I went to several graduation parties before summer officially started for me, and basically sat around and ate a lot of good food. Can you imagine how tiring that was? Anyway, at one of the parties I went to I sat with some adults and we conversed casually about homeschooling and amusements parks. The conversation eventually came around to me, because I'm going to be a senior (yikes) and I was asked the simple question: Do you know what you want to do? I told them about my blog and about how I love to help bloggers by designing their websites for them. They asked for more information, and I left the party feeling ecstatic because that was the first time I'd ever talked about my online life with others - and enjoyed it. On the way home I began compiling this list of tips to help you talk about your blog IRL (in real

5 Tips to Help You Feel Better When the Day Gets Rough (Guest Post)

Hello everyone! I'm June and I'm the creator of my blog- Impossible . Over there I blog about, my life, tags, book reviews, music, interviews etc. I'm called a lifestyle blogger. I ask Nicole to guest post here and well, here I am. Today, I'm sharing tips on how to feel better on a bad day. I hope you enjoy. :) 1. Headphones + Music --- Turn up those songs that you love! Just sit down somewhere cozy and listen to your favorite songs. Try not to think about those bad things that happen, think about things that make you smile. 2. Talk  --- Talk to a family member or call your best friend and just rant about how the day sucks.Talking about your feelings probably will make you feel better. 3. Read  --- When I have a bad day- I pull out my favorite books, curl up somewhere cozy and read! Reading helps me take things off my mind. Maybe you could try. 4. Walk it off --- Take a nice walk with your pet or yourself. Thinking about the problem or whatever bad

Delve Into Me: A Close Look At the Bloggers You Love (008)

Today's interview is going to be a little bit different than the one's I've done in the past. Emily from Lynde Avenue contacted me a few weeks ago, asking for an interview - and I happily agreed. Read on to learn more about her. :) + + + What are the best types of design clients? Ones who return emails quickly and are very flexible. My turnaround time for designs is pretty fast, so it's awesome to get feedback as soon as possible! I also like clients who are flexible, because sometimes there are just certain elements that I can't create or don't know how to, and I love bloggers who are super understanding about that sort of thing. What's your designing pet peeve? Hm...I'm not too fond of designing with the color blue, but I suppose that's more personal preference than pet peeve :P I'm going to have to say, when my graphics don't download properly *shudders* Where do you draw inspiration? Inspiration is everywhere! Some of t

When You Have a Hard Time Getting Back Into Your Schedule

For the month of May, I decided to buckle down and start spewing out blog posts to fill up my June blogging calendar. It was hard and I accomplished almost every post I wanted to write (though there were a few projects that sadly didn't work out). Then I made the mistake of not writing anything blog related for about a week...or three... Don't get me wrong, it was very refreshing and sometimes you need to step back to rest your mind. But when I came back to my blog, I was so refreshed I didn't feel like doing anything. Including sitting myself down to write this post. But here we are, m'dear. You, me, and these five tips to help get you back into your blogging schedule. 1. Make adjustments If you're like me and you're coming back from a much needed break, you're probably looking at your To Do list and thinking, "How am I going to get all this done in one day?" That's when you make adjustments. When you see something on your list you

Express Yourself: A FREE E-Course

If you're signed up for my email list, then you already know what this is about. ;) A few weeks back I asked what you guys were interested in seeing on Self Known. A lot of you asked for something related to web design. I researched, participated in webinars and got down to brainstorming. When I started creating, it felt like this course had been inside me for awhile and I had one of those moments where it was like "it's about time I got this out of me". I'm crazy excited to be announcing that: Starting July 8th I will begin offering a free course entitled, Express Yourself: Design the Blog That Best Fits YOU . I created this course for those who want to establish their own web design that expresses who they are, and doesn't cost a whole lot of dough in the process. The course is set up so that it can be completed in a week, and it will provide the tips and tricks needed to build the site of your dreams. Along with seven lessons, worksheets, check
