7 Steps That Will Immediately and Effectively Grow Your Blog

When I started my first blog back in 2011, one of my first posts was about having my non-existent readers guess which American Girl Dolls I owned. *cringes*

Obviously, I had no idea what I was doing. (Some would even go so far as to say I wasn't even a real blogger - I was just a spammy child in need of attention and followers.)

Today's post is for those beginning bloggers who want their eyes to be opened and the bloggers who have had their site for years, but just aren't getting anywhere.

Here are 7 steps that will immediately and effectively grow your blog.

Email subscription widget

What better way to get people flowing to your site, then to offer sending your posts directly into their inbox?

A great way into hooking people into subscribing (besides having fabulous, reliable content) is to create a freebie, generally in the form of an e-book. Think about your target audience. What do they want? Do they have a problem that needs solved? Base your e-book around something simple and attach it as a sweet little bonus for those who are willing to subscribe. :)

Bloglovin' gadget or link

Another way to get people to follow along is through Bloglovin'. Bloglovin' popularity has grown tremendously (and I'm sure not just with me personally), so offering it as a form of following will not only drive traffic to your blog, but increase your chances of getting shared, due to Bloglovin's super awesome features.

Clean, mobile friendly design

If you are a blogger who uses any one of the Default Blogger Templates, then there's no need to fret. Your site is already mobile friendly. (Of course, it may not look the prettiest, but I can fix that.)

You may have heard that in April, Google started shunning sites that weren't mobile friendly. Meaning, no matter how SEO friendly your blog is, there's no way it can get to the top of the search entries without having the added bonus of being nice to your mobile users.

*sigh* As if you didn't already have enough work to do.

For those of you not using the Blogger platform (or if you're using a custom Blogger template), this means you need a responsive theme.

What's a responsive theme?

A responsive theme means that your layout adjusts to the screen size of the device your site is being viewed on. Whether it's being viewed on a smart phone or a desktop, your site will adjust seamlessly in response.

These themes are everywhere. Have you ever noticed how some blogs may look just a tad bit wonky - but once you resize the page, everything is good? That's because the site you're viewing is responsive. So the next time you come across a website like that, start playing with your browser and marvel at the awesomeness that coding as become. ;)

Social media links / Share buttons

Have you ever liked a blog author so much that you felt the need to stalk them - or, at least, see what other amazing resources they have to offer? Maybe you liked one of their posts so much that you felt the need to share it with the world. Whatever the case, I'm sure your readers feel the same way toward your content, so share buttons and links to your social media are both two key counterparts when it comes to driving new traffic to your blog.

Social media

The people who read your blog may want to find out more about you due to your helpfulness on the web or your sweet personality. And the people who follow you on social media may see your website link, click on it, and become an insta-fan (it's happened before!). This not only drives traffic back and forth between your social and your blog, but is a way of gently growing your readers and followers.

Share buttons

Time and time again I've come across a website with an amazing resource with an ah-mazing graphic that would look stunning on my Pinterest - but they didn't have a share button. And because I'm lazy, I either bookmark the site and forget all about it, or worse - I leave it all together! In order to prevent this from happening to you, implementing share buttons into your post is a MAJOR MUST. Major as in you Must Absolutely Just Orient it Right now or else your gorgeous site is so not going to grow.

Bio page

Your content in beautiful. Your site's theme is beautiful. And who made it all happen? Why, the beautiful person behind the blog did, of course!

Creating a bio page and allowing your audience to learn more about you is an essential. When people like something, they want to know who created it. They like to know that there's a fleshy, breathing organism doing all the work behind the scenes. So reward them with deets. Tell them a few of your quirks. Let them know you're human.

Contact page

From your content to your personality, readers are curious. When they're intrigued and engaged, they like to ask questions. They like to receive help. They like to know more. So give them your business or blog email and make sure to set up a page or specific section on your blog that says "Hey, I think you're cool and if there's anything I can do to help you, let me know, okay?" And be genuine about it. If I can spot the falsies from a mile away, your readers can too.

Search box

Many times have I jumped to a site in search for something specific. And many times have I become frustrated when that wonderful site didn't have a search bar. When this happens, it's quite frustrating. Adding a search box to your site will relieve your readers from this irritation, and prompt them into coming back when they're in search of your exclusive information.

What steps do you take?

Share with me in the comments! I'd love to hear about your methods. :)
xx Nicole Rose

May I ask for your [honest] opinion?

via Alrighty. I recently just completed my one hundredth blog design order [insert celebratory balloons, glitter cannons, and thrown pies here]. ;} And I was talking to my mother about this in the car, to and from the store. Basically, what she said was; "You've been doing your designs for a long time, right? So why don't you start charging for your services?" This got me thinking, and in my eyes, I feel as though charging for my designs would probably make me feel like I'm getting cocky, and too proud of my work, yah know? But I wanted to ask you guys, my honest readers; do YOU think my services are worth spending money on? Like seriously. If you wanted a new design would you choose me, even if it cost you ten dollars? I know most of it is just a matter of opinion. Every designer has their own way of doing things. Their own unique style. It all depends on what the "order-er" wants. I'd like to know if I have the capabilities of giving s...

Justin -- Fictional Character

Justin. Sarcastic. Opinionated. Hot. <-- Yep, I said it. •-• * * * Hello my lovely readers. Today I'd like to introduce you to my fave boy character whom I invented. His name is Justin. He's the main character in my first completed book, The Memory Keeper (read a sneak peek here ). I wanted to share Justin with you because, well, I did this a while back with Zarek , and I received so nice comments about him. :) So I thought what the hey, I may as well share another character with them . :} So, yes. This is Justin.  He's rough and sarcastic on the outside.  But his insides are like melted chocolate-- sweet, gooey, and totally amazing. O.o Here's a little Justin snippet. I hope you guys enjoy it. >.< * * * M uffled voices ring around my ears, gradually waking me up from my sleep. Someone laughs when I groan and I roll over, shying away from all the noise. When I get the courage, I open my eyes, surprised by how dark it is. The walls...

Wake Up, Darling.

Wake up darling, it's time to rise. Sit up, stretch your limbs, and put a smile on that tired face. Tomorrow is gone, and it's a new day. Wake up darling, open the blinds. Open the window if you have to, and stick your head out. Smell the air. Breathe. Let the morning sun hit your cheeks. Ahh. A fresh start. Are you awake, darling? Get dressed now. Put on your worn sweater, and jeans, or favorite graphic tee. Decided whether or not it's worth it to find the matching pair to your sock, and if you'd like attempt to untangle that mass of hair on your head. Whatever you'd like. Now darling. Are you ready? Because it's adventure time . + + + Thank you for reading. <3
