Creative Fears Meet Creative Solutions

This is an email I shared with my creative newsletter friends.

I’m stuck with two paragraphs of bleh and it’s already nine in the morning. Not a strong day so far.

I think I’m blocked because I’m afraid. Afraid of disappointing or messing up. Afraid to put something out there and get crickets in response.

This is just one of my many creative fears.

Another is numbers. How many pairs of eyes I have looking at what I produce. For a while now I’ve avoided looking at the numbers that express the extent of my reach across the Internet. It is because I can’t help but compare. I can’t help but think they should be triple their size.

Then there are the opinions.

Whether it be my own -- “I can do better” -- or someone else echoing disagreement. Because of my personality, sometimes I can get myself to see both sides of the argument. I understand why she is enraged and he is disappointed. I see and feel for so many.

Pause. Breathe. Go at it again.

Now that the fears are out there in the open, this is that I’d say if it were you telling me these things…

There is magic in producing “messed up” things, for they contain the dirty pieces of yourself that make everything you touch so unique. You and what you make are both art. It doesn’t matter what the eye of the consumer sees - it matters only if you feel that what you’ve made is enough for you.

Face the fear of producing.

And about the numbers. The smaller they are, the more personal the group and the better the connection you have with one another.

Honestly? I would rather have ten amazing friends to tease and laugh with than one million people who sometimes click the like button. There is honesty and strength in small numbers.

Face the fear of not being seen.

Now, opinions. This is tricky because we are all entitled to our own. More specifically, you are allowed to form your own.

If you see both sides, then you know the arguments. You know the pros and cons. Weigh them and build something. Decide what you are for (not against).

But you don’t have to. That’s just my opinion.

You can’t listen to everyone, my friend. At some point you have to step back and just be. Your creativity will spark. Your people will follow. Your support will reinforce itself. And it will not matter how afraid you were. It will only matter that you did what you did.

What do you think?

May I ask for your [honest] opinion?

via Alrighty. I recently just completed my one hundredth blog design order [insert celebratory balloons, glitter cannons, and thrown pies here]. ;} And I was talking to my mother about this in the car, to and from the store. Basically, what she said was; "You've been doing your designs for a long time, right? So why don't you start charging for your services?" This got me thinking, and in my eyes, I feel as though charging for my designs would probably make me feel like I'm getting cocky, and too proud of my work, yah know? But I wanted to ask you guys, my honest readers; do YOU think my services are worth spending money on? Like seriously. If you wanted a new design would you choose me, even if it cost you ten dollars? I know most of it is just a matter of opinion. Every designer has their own way of doing things. Their own unique style. It all depends on what the "order-er" wants. I'd like to know if I have the capabilities of giving s...

Wake Up, Darling.

Wake up darling, it's time to rise. Sit up, stretch your limbs, and put a smile on that tired face. Tomorrow is gone, and it's a new day. Wake up darling, open the blinds. Open the window if you have to, and stick your head out. Smell the air. Breathe. Let the morning sun hit your cheeks. Ahh. A fresh start. Are you awake, darling? Get dressed now. Put on your worn sweater, and jeans, or favorite graphic tee. Decided whether or not it's worth it to find the matching pair to your sock, and if you'd like attempt to untangle that mass of hair on your head. Whatever you'd like. Now darling. Are you ready? Because it's adventure time . + + + Thank you for reading. <3

Justin -- Fictional Character

Justin. Sarcastic. Opinionated. Hot. <-- Yep, I said it. •-• * * * Hello my lovely readers. Today I'd like to introduce you to my fave boy character whom I invented. His name is Justin. He's the main character in my first completed book, The Memory Keeper (read a sneak peek here ). I wanted to share Justin with you because, well, I did this a while back with Zarek , and I received so nice comments about him. :) So I thought what the hey, I may as well share another character with them . :} So, yes. This is Justin.  He's rough and sarcastic on the outside.  But his insides are like melted chocolate-- sweet, gooey, and totally amazing. O.o Here's a little Justin snippet. I hope you guys enjoy it. >.< * * * M uffled voices ring around my ears, gradually waking me up from my sleep. Someone laughs when I groan and I roll over, shying away from all the noise. When I get the courage, I open my eyes, surprised by how dark it is. The walls...
