Creativity in Us

What first comes to mind when someone says they are "creative?"

Do you think of an artist with a paintbrush? An author writing a book? Do you think of a jewelry maker or a make-up artist? A graphic or video game designer? Perhaps a lifestyle blogger?

I'll be honest, I've caught myself defining someone "creative" as anyone who has an aesthetic Instagram feed. But when you really think about it, there's so much more to it than that.

Creativity comes in many different styles.

For instance, in my father, creativity is in what he does around the house. How he presents gifts to my mother, buys special treats for us kids and always hugs us before he leaves.

In my mother, it's her baked goods and secret outings that almost always seem to involve food. It's the way she goes the extra mile to make sure each one of her children is prepared for the world.

And it's not limited to just that. Creativity is in everything everyone does. (That statement makes me feel as though I've discovered a profound universal truth.)

Creativity doesn't define us. We define creativity.

I don't think creativity is bound to a certain liberal arts school or a career solely dedicated to crafting with pottery. Creativity is a factor that lives within us all -- and it breathes to its own, personalized rhythm.

What do you believe about creativity?

  3. It's funny, because I was having a conversation with a friend about creativity because there's a contest I want to enter that she entered last year but I wasn't sure if they were looking for a certain aesthetic. And she said that out of all the writing competitions out there, its the one where the style or qualifications for creativity aren't necessarily easy to capture because like you said, we define it. Art shouldn't have to follow boxed in rules. Well done, Rose!

May I ask for your [honest] opinion?

via Alrighty. I recently just completed my one hundredth blog design order [insert celebratory balloons, glitter cannons, and thrown pies here]. ;} And I was talking to my mother about this in the car, to and from the store. Basically, what she said was; "You've been doing your designs for a long time, right? So why don't you start charging for your services?" This got me thinking, and in my eyes, I feel as though charging for my designs would probably make me feel like I'm getting cocky, and too proud of my work, yah know? But I wanted to ask you guys, my honest readers; do YOU think my services are worth spending money on? Like seriously. If you wanted a new design would you choose me, even if it cost you ten dollars? I know most of it is just a matter of opinion. Every designer has their own way of doing things. Their own unique style. It all depends on what the "order-er" wants. I'd like to know if I have the capabilities of giving s...

So this is where I'm at.

Hi friend. How are you? I hope this post meets you well. Today I wanted to write about this little space. My corner of the Internet. After many attempts to give it a major face lift / rebrand / vibe / mission I figured out that the girl I was in 2012 when I originally started this blog is no longer who I am. So let's start fresh. Hi, I'm Rosie. I am a college student and a creator of many crafts. I enjoy writing Young Adult fiction, playing piano, singing at the top of my lungs, and, above all, making other people laugh. Right now I am pursuing a degree in art therapy, which means my future job will be  helping people express themselves in a safe environment with someone who loves them.  I have tried to be many things on the Internet, from an American Girl doll hoarder to a make-up artist, but nothing has really clicked with me. Not until now. I have always been a Christian. My entire life I have identified as being a follower of Jesus Christ. But the thing ab...

Room Tour 2019

I've always wanted to do one of these posts. If not for the enjoyment of others, for the enjoyment of my future self to look back on and realize how much my style and space have changed. My door. I think I'm sooo artsy for taping paint swatches to my door. And I actually love how it looks too. I was going for "Starry Night" with my own little twist -- and without the actual paint. ;) This is what my room looks like from the doorway. Can you guess what the theme is? It's funny -- a few weeks ago I was discussing with Kenzie how my room has this coral and aquamarine vibe to it, yet my Instagram theme is focused on yellows and blues, and my actual fashion style is very grungy/hispter/artsy. So it all comes full circle, I guess? Still, I love my room. It's my safe haven. Now come on in so I can give you the full tour... Right as you walk in, you will see my DIY jewelry hanging on the wall to your right. It's quite a balancing act when I ...
