Do you really want to be normal?

I'm not good at making friends. I'm the awkward kid, the one who stares at the ground while they talk, or bounces on the balls of their feet, keeping in time with the tune that's inside their head alone. I'm the quirky one of the group. My ideas are either amazing or something to be frowned upon. I like to make people laugh. But I hate it when I can see everyone's head turning in my direction as I speak. I can't take the heat. I don't like the attention.

Yet I strive to be that person.

That person that everyone around me seems to be. The one who can tell the story without messing up the plot. The one who can express their opinion, and still sound...normal.

But I figured out a long time ago; I'm not normal.

“The word ‘Normal’ has become, like, a cringing word to me.

Because, who wants to be normal?

Normal is something millions of people do every single day.

To be abnormal, to me, is what’s a lot more fun.

And I think the individualism of that is what life’s all about.”

 —Josh Hutcherson

I'm learning to embrace my abnormalities. That I should strive to be unique and one of a kind. Why care about society's ever so cliche view--that you must be normal and blend in with the crowd--when you can be yourself and feel good about it?

Look at all these movie stars, the actors, the actresses, the singers, the dancers. How did they get where they are today? How did they become famous role models?

They stood out.

So maybe that's what I have to do.

What's your opinion on being "normal"?

  1. Rose...

    what you said there...

that is ME. that is exactly me.

i never thought that there was anyone out there like me. i really appreciate this, because now i know i'm not alone. thank you. <3

but not only have you told me that i'm not alone, but you have given me motivation. i don't like anything popular, but i always wish that i did. after reading this post, i realized that it's ok not to like what everyone else likes, or do what everyone else does. because i'm not alone. :)

    Rose. you. are. AMAZING.

  2. YES. This is amazing. Every word of this is perfect. You are perfect. Stop it.

ASDFGHJKL; JOSH. (Sorry about that *le awkward*)

Normal is WAY overrated. Really, who wants to be normal!? I sure don't. Sounds WAY too boring to me. Seriously. nobody who matters cares if you're different, I'd rather be different than just like everyone else. I was made to be ME, not a copy of someone else.

    Flawless as always, Rose ♥

I totally agree with what you said. The same with the word 'simple'. People seem to use that as a good word. Something that you should be. When in reality, complexities are what make life an adventure.

  6. OMG! So well put.
I'm the same. I want to be in the group, but every time I open my mouth I feel like I'm saying something stupid, I can't relax.
I'm very different and that makes me worry. I'm afraid of what people will think, but in real life, there is no such thing as normal. Everyone is different and odd, but no one notices that when the differences aren't as huge as ours.

  7. I feel strongly about this, but sometimes, I shrink away from being myself because it makes me stand out and 'weird'. Thanks for this post, it is really incouraging, and it makes me want to be myself even if that makes people think I'm odd. Because I am. We all are. There's nobody else like us, and THAT is really cool.

  8. A. I'm so happy I'm not the only one who loves J-Hutch because everyone I know tries to make me feel like I'm a freak for thinking he's awesome.

    B. I'm awkward too and it will be a long uphill battle to fight off all this social awkwardness (I've already figured that it's because I have low self-esteem--now I just have to figure out how to shake that off.)

    C. Sorry for quoting Taylor Swift at the end of point B.

  9. I totally agree with you.
I love making people laugh, but I'm always the shy person of the group. The awkward one. I'm terrible at starting conversations and super quiet the majority of the time. Most of the time I just listen to people because I'm better at that than talking.

Also can I just say, I.love.your.blog.design.
    It is seriously gorgeous.

Room Tour 2019

I've always wanted to do one of these posts. If not for the enjoyment of others, for the enjoyment of my future self to look back on and realize how much my style and space have changed. My door. I think I'm sooo artsy for taping paint swatches to my door. And I actually love how it looks too. I was going for "Starry Night" with my own little twist -- and without the actual paint. ;) This is what my room looks like from the doorway. Can you guess what the theme is? It's funny -- a few weeks ago I was discussing with Kenzie how my room has this coral and aquamarine vibe to it, yet my Instagram theme is focused on yellows and blues, and my actual fashion style is very grungy/hispter/artsy. So it all comes full circle, I guess? Still, I love my room. It's my safe haven. Now come on in so I can give you the full tour... Right as you walk in, you will see my DIY jewelry hanging on the wall to your right. It's quite a balancing act when I

How and Why: Linkup Parties

Starting out as a blogger can be really hard. You want to grow your blog, but even though it seems like you've tried everything, nothing works. Your blog hasn't expanded in the least. You don't see any improvement. That's why in this post I'm going to share with you the miracle of link up parties! I'm going to go over how they work, why you should create your own, which hosts you should use and much, much more. Let's get started, shall we? :) Share this post to help other bloggers learn about linkup parties. How they work The typical link party can be broken down into 3  basic*  parts. * Every link up is different, so as you're reading through this and considering to create your own, consider adding a unique twist to your link up party. After all, people tend to get tired of seeing the same old same old. The sponsors These are the people who came up with the original idea of that particular link party.
